Sheffield City Region Mayor Manifesto 2018

Next year the Government will be devolving the Adult Education budget to the Combined Authority. Whilst reassuring current providers (e.g FE Colleges and Local Authority funded adult learning) that there won’t be excessive disruption to what they’re doing, it will be important to review the needs of the City Region.

In November’s autumn budget Government plans to invest £76 million into retraining adults who want to work in the digital and construction sectors were unveiled. We should make Sheffield City Region a digital and construction hub to ensure the North of England benefits from this additional investment.

If elected mayor I will:

  • Focus funding on people who have not previously gained a Level 2 (e.g. 5 GCSEs A*-C).
  • Work with employers, education providers, and community organisations to analyse where the real gaps in provision are.
  • Work towards Sheffield City Region being the first Mayoral Combined Area to have 100% of the population with basic digital skills.
